Find the IP Address of Your PC

The following steps explain how to find IP (Internet Protocol) addresses, using the Microsoft Windows Command prompt.

Steps :

  1. Click on Start in the bottom left hand corner of your screen.
  2. Click on Run. An input box will appear with a flashing cursor.
  3. Type "cmd" or "Command" in the Run box.
  4. Click on OK or press the Enter key on your keyboard.Or click on start. Go to programs.Go to Accessories and click on Comand Prompt.
  5. An MS DOS Window will open (see image). You are now ready to send a command to your computer.
  6. Type "netstat -n" including the space.
  7. Press Enter(see image).
  8. You will see a list of all your active connections and IP numbers.
  9. You will see four fields with four columns.
  10. The Local Address field identifies your IP number. The Foreign Address field shows the IP numbers of the sites or people to whom you are connected. In the image, I am talking to two friends on Messenger, so two IP addresses are shown in the Foreign Address field.
  11. You can also see what programs are being used to connect to those IP addresses by typing "netstat -nab". That way, if you are connected to more than one foreign IP address, you can more easily pick out the address you are interested in.
  12. Also another way you can do it is Start>Run>Cmd>Ipconfig This should show you: your masked IP and IP.

Tips :

  • If you wish to find out your own IP address, you should run the same ms-dos prompt by clicking Start -> Run -> and typing in "cmd" in the box -> then press enter. A black pop up box should come up, type: "ipconfig /all" instead of the netstat -n command, or go to one of the IP information sites in the External Links to get your global IP address if you are behind a router.
  • For just the local IP address, you don't need all the info from "/all". A simple "ipconfig" will work.
  • Under win95/98 click "Start > Run > winipcfg"

Warnings :

  • This is only for PCs. A link to one for Apple is included.
When using an IP information site from a service that uses a web proxy (such as AOL), be aware that the reported IP may be that of the service's web proxy and not your actual IP.
  • This can also happen when you aren't using a server, such as AOL, as your computer often tries to mask your IP address so that you can have more security.
  • If you are behind a router your IP shown will be your private Ip. To get your external search google for 'what is my ip'.also you can check it by searching in Google what is my internet protocol address

How to Find out Your IP Address

An IP address is a unique string of numbers that identifies a computer or server on the Internet. This address can be used for special functions, such as remotely accessing your computer.

  1. Open Command Prompt. In Windows XP, click Start, then All Programs, from here go into "Accessories" and click "Command Prompt". You can also open it by clicking Start, then click Run, then type command and click OK.
  2. Notice there will be a black box. Type in ipconfig.
  3. Wait and you will be given your IP address, DNS address and possibly some more information.

Alternate Method
Follow this link: http://myipaddress.com/show-my-ip-address/

Tips :

  1. Beware that this only works if you aren't on a local network. Otherwise it will be giving your local and not you main one that expressed on the Internet. If your IP Address begins with "192.168", then you are reading your local IP address.
  2. You can quickly access your IP address by visiting websites such as the ones listed below under "Sources and Citations"...
  3. Your IP address is set in this form: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.
  4. Your IP address can only contain numbers (in place of the xxx) from 0 up to 255, so lets say you go on a site claiming to show your IP, and you get an IP address saying 0.288.288.274, it wouldn't be a real IP, but it could be 207.184.24.254.

Warnings :

  1. If you are on a LAN, you will get the LAN IP with the above steps.
  2. When using an IP information site from a service that uses a web proxy (such as AOL), be aware that the reported IP may be that of the service's web proxy and not your actual IP.
  3. Don't download any software claiming to show you your IP.

How to Write a Newspaper Column

Writing a newspaper column is easy; getting it published takes work.
  1. Prepare a sample of your writing and a cover letter.
  2. Contact the papers that you are looking for and ask if they would be willing to print your article or are looking for articles on certain topics.
  3. Short articles are normally 500 words or fewer; columns are 1200 words or fewer. This is an average and will vary from paper to paper. Keep your writing within these guidelines unless otherwise requested.
  4. Columnists don't often get to write about topics of their choice. Be prepared to research what the papers are looking for.
  5. Enjoy writing. If you do not get pleasure out of your writing, it will reflect in the final product.
  6. Define your own standpoint. Article without standpoint is boring & readers cannot understand what are you standing for.

Tips

  • Send letter and sample of writing to editor for first contact via snail mail (unless otherwise requested by the editor).
  • Most first contacts are never made when sent through e-mail or fax. Editors get many faxes and e-mails and most will disregard the ones from people they do not know.
  • Be prepared for rejection. You may try to get into 100 papers and not get accepted by one, but it's also possible the first one may be your jackpot. In all, rejection is a very common part of writing.
  • Every writer has a unique style. Do not try to copy the style of any writer. You should define your own unique style.
  • If possible, write in Associated Press format. Journalism's punctuation is very different than your normal english formatting.

Ever wanted to make your own website, but just don't know how? With these steps, creating a website might be much easier than you think!.
  1. Understand the basics. To publish a web site, you should know what a web site must have to be published. A website has a unique web address like www.google.com or www.yahoo.com. This is called a domain name. Each domain name is registered with a DNS (Domain Name Server), which identifies a domain name with a unique ID i.e. IP address (A bunch of 4 groups of 3 digits each). Then, a web site must have a webspace allocated to it. This is provided by a Web Server maintained by many companies.
  2. Look on the web if the name you want to register for website is still available i.e not registered by anyone. You can search for this on many websites like http://www.networksolutions.com etc. If the name is available, then go for it, or think over a new name.
  3. Note the following. If the name is available, then you should go to an Internet Service Provider and get the name of your website registered. You'll get a unique IP address and domain name from the same Internet Service Provider or another buy a web space for your web site. A normal and usual website can be designed with 5 MB of Web space. Depending on your requirement buy web space. There may be generally two options one on a web server using Windows hosting or Linux hosting. Linux hosting is generally cheaper. Also consider the design of your web site and tools you are using to develop your web pages. These should be available on the hosting web server.
  4. Get your web pages designed and working on your own or by a professional web site designer.
  5. Upload the contents of the web pages (files, Folders etc.) as it is to the web server with FTP address, login and password provided by hosting service provider.
  6. Give yourself a pat on the back! Now your website is ready and running over the Internet. You can see it using http://www.yourdomainname.com

  1. Get a website - if you don't have the budget ($2500 - $5000) for a custom designed website, get a starter website that includes everything you need to get your business online in a few days. It will not offer as many options, but will be far cheaper. See External links below. Great options available for renting a website, see http://www.renthttp.com. This will allow you to add eCommerce, Blog, Photogallery, forum etc. at no additional cost.
  2. Proofread your website: There's no point in marketing it like crazy if it has silly errors in it. Make sure it's ready for the professional world.
  3. Search Engine Optimize your site: Make sure your site has the necessary meta tags (description, title, and keywords), alt tags, title tags, and copywriting. If these are new terms for you, visit http://www.sadiedesigns.com/blog.shtml for a basic web marketing glossary.
  4. Add your site to local searches: Most of the search engines have local search functions, and you should definitely appear there. Visit www.local.yahoo.com, www.local.google.com, and www.superpages.com to list your site.
  5. Register your site with search engines: Submit your site to the major search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN) and directories (DMOZ).
  6. Build links: Ask other related sites to link to your site. You'll have better luck if your site offers solid resources, tools, or tips for readers. Also submit to related directories.
  7. Write articles: Write articles about topics relating to your site, and publish them on your site. Also submit them to as many article directories as you can find. Just do a search for "Article Submit".
